The ticket

Charles V spearing a bull in the ring at Valladolid, plate 10 from "La Tauromaquia" is a print by Goya (Francisco de Goya y Lucientes) (Spanish, Fuendetodos 1746–1828 Bordeaux), dated 1816. Etching, burnished aquatint, drypoint, burin. Size on the museum record: Plate: 9 13/16 × 13 3/4 in. (25 × 35 cm) Sheet: 10 15/16 × 15 1/16 in. (27.8 × 38.2 cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds it in its Drawings and Prints collection — Gift of Walter E. Sachs, 1916.

The Met released its scan under CC0, which means no permission, no fee and no credit line required. That file is 3,738 × 2,775 pixels — 10.4 megapixels — good for a gallery-sharp print up to 12.5 × 9.3 in. That is roughly life-size: the print itself measures about 13.8 × 9.8 in.Line work lives or dies on contrast. Print it on a smooth, bright paper and give it a wide mat: small graphic work drowns in a thin frame and a big empty border makes it look like it came out of a print room drawer.
