The ticket

Duck and Reeds is a print by Berthe Morisot (French, Bourges 1841–1895 Paris), dated 1889. Drypoint on wove paper. Size on the museum record: sheet: 14 1/16 x 10 15/16 in. (35.7 x 27.8 cm) plate: 5 1/2 x 3 15/16 in. (13.9 x 10 cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds it in its Drawings and Prints collection — Purchase, Rogers Fund and Jacob H. Schiff Bequest, 1922.

The Met released its scan under CC0, which means no permission, no fee and no credit line required. That file is 2,992 × 3,678 pixels — 11 megapixels — good for a gallery-sharp print up to 10 × 12.3 in. That is roughly life-size: the print itself measures about 10.9 × 14.1 in.Line work lives or dies on contrast. Print it on a smooth, bright paper and give it a wide mat: small graphic work drowns in a thin frame and a big empty border makes it look like it came out of a print room drawer.
