The ticket

Three Sketches-Two Geese Walking; Peasant Woman with a Cow; Goose Hiding its Head is a work on paper by Alfred Sisley (British, Paris 1839–1899 Moret-sur-Loing), dated 1895–97. Three separate sheets of varying sizes, with the same mediums and supports: graphite and colored crayon on buff wove paper, darkened. Size on the museum record: 2 3/4 x 5 1/8 in. (7 x 13 cm); 2 7/16 x 2 3/16 in. (6.2 x 5.5 cm); 2 3/8 x 2 3/4 in. (6 x 7 cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds it in its Robert Lehman Collection collection — Robert Lehman Collection, 1975.

The Met released its scan under CC0, which means no permission, no fee and no credit line required. That file is 3,135 × 3,707 pixels — 11.6 megapixels — good for a gallery-sharp print up to 10.5 × 12.4 in. That is bigger than the work on paper itself, which measures about 5.1 × 2.8 in — the file holds more detail than you can see standing in front of the original.Works on paper are quiet. Print near the original’s size rather than blowing it up, mat it generously, and keep it out of direct sun — the same rules the museum follows for the real one.
