The ticket

Yvette Guilbert is a print by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (French, Albi 1864–1901 Saint-André-du-Bois), dated 1894. Album with lithographed cover on Japan paper and sixteen crayon lithographs printed in olive green on laid paper; only state. Size on the museum record: 16 in. × 15 1/8 in. (40.6 × 38.4 cm) Sheet: 15 × 15 in. (38.1 × 38.1 cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds it in its Drawings and Prints collection — Rogers Fund, 1918.

The Met released its scan under CC0, which means no permission, no fee and no credit line required. That file is 4,000 × 3,494 pixels — 14 megapixels — good for a gallery-sharp print up to 13.3 × 11.6 in. That is roughly life-size: the print itself measures about 15.1 × 16 in.Line work lives or dies on contrast. Print it on a smooth, bright paper and give it a wide mat: small graphic work drowns in a thin frame and a big empty border makes it look like it came out of a print room drawer.
