The ticket

Hercules and Cacus, after Annibale Carracci, and the Destruction of Enceladus, after Agostino Carracci is a work on paper by Jean Honoré Fragonard (French, Grasse 1732–1806 Paris), dated 1761. Black chalk; framing lines in pen and brown ink. Size on the museum record: 8 1/16 x 11 9/16 in. (20.4 x 29.3 cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds it in its Drawings and Prints collection — Gift of Mrs. Paul Moore, 1960.

The Met released its scan under CC0, which means no permission, no fee and no credit line required. That file is 3,811 × 2,711 pixels — 10.3 megapixels — good for a gallery-sharp print up to 12.7 × 9 in. That is roughly life-size: the work on paper itself measures about 11.5 × 8 in.Works on paper are quiet. Print near the original’s size rather than blowing it up, mat it generously, and keep it out of direct sun — the same rules the museum follows for the real one.
