The ticket

L'Arlésienne: Madame Joseph-Michel Ginoux (Marie Julien, 1848–1911) is a painting by Vincent van Gogh (Dutch, Zundert 1853–1890 Auvers-sur-Oise), dated 1888–89. Oil on canvas. Size on the museum record: 36 × 29 in. (91.4 × 73.7 cm). The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds it in its European Paintings collection — Bequest of Sam A. Lewisohn, 1951.

In The Met's records, L'Arlésienne: Madame Joseph-Michel Ginoux (Marie Julien, 1848–1911) is an oil on canvas credited to Vincent van Gogh. The museum dates it 1888–89 (accession 51.112.3, European Paintings). The subject is a person, so the face is the anchor. Hang it with the eyes near the centre line instead of floating high on the wall. The Met's scan measures 2,957 × 3,722 pixels, which prints about 9.9 × 12.4 in at 300 dpi and 19.7 × 24.8 in at a still-comfortable 150 dpi. Because it runs tall, it wants a vertical frame; compare the crop percentage across sizes before you choose. Its golden tones pair naturally with a gold or walnut frame, or go black for a sharper, more modern contrast. Paintings reproduce best on matte paper, since gloss throws glare across exactly the brushwork you came for. A warm picture light a few inches above the frame does more for a print than any paper upgrade, and the hanging centre line belongs near 57 inches.

The Met released its scan under CC0, which means no permission, no fee and no credit line required. That file is 2,957 × 3,722 pixels — 11 megapixels — good for a gallery-sharp print up to 9.9 × 12.4 in. The painting itself measures about 29 × 36 in, so a true life-size print runs below 300 dpi — still sharp at normal viewing distance.Paintings reproduce best on matte paper. Gloss throws glare across exactly the brushwork you came for, and a picture light does more for a print than any upgrade in paper.
