The story
Botticelli painted this large mythological scene on canvas. The figures are outlined so clearly that even a reproduction can keep the movement of hair, cloth and surf readable across a room.
Her proportions are wrong on purpose: the neck is too long, the shoulders slope impossibly, the left arm could not attach to that body. Botticelli was after a line, not an anatomy lesson, and the line is why it survives.
It punishes bad reproduction more than anything else on this board — the whole picture lives in pale skin against pale sea, so a print with crushed midtones turns it to mud. Look for one that keeps the background legible.
