The story
Klimt used actual gold leaf. No four-colour print will ever reproduce that, so stop trying — the goal is to get a version where the gold reads as warm metal rather than flat yellow.
That means looking for a print on textured or slightly toned paper, or a canvas reproduction, and avoiding anything shiny. Glossy plus gold equals a hotel lobby in 2004.
It is the one piece on this board that genuinely improves a bedroom. Use it there and stop overthinking it.
What it pairs with
Warm light, a thin brass frame, and a bedroom that has given up on minimalism.
Buying notes
- Matte over glossy, always. Glossy reproductions fight every light source in a real room.
- Go one size larger than feels sensible. Undersized art is the most common mistake there is.
- Hang the centre of the piece at 57 inches from the floor. Non-negotiable.
- A three-inch mat costs about eighteen dollars and does more than a two-hundred-dollar print.
